kun's corner: Monochrome edition

Well, in case you don't know, I've sweated my exhausted brain just to come up a title for this series. At first, I wanted it to be some thing like my signature such as: " kun's favorite" :)), but then favorite is too normal, should I call it kun's closet? seemed so weird, I don't want people to think I just wanna share my favorite clothing pieces. How about " my favorite items"? then it would erase my "kun" signature.  I guess it should be " Kun's favorite items" then, but why it sounds so boring...yup, That's how I ended up with this title: too tired to create a new extraordinary name for my blogpost and decided to pick up the name of my second Instagram for this series :)). This series post  can be anything, either clothes ( mostly clothes :)) ) or makeup, or just my personal favorite things like movies, websites, bloggers, etc...So you might have a question why I have to create a series like this and why not just put these blog posts in different  and separate names? The biggest reason behind this series is because ...I want a title that carries my signature "kun" :)))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))). Also, I created this series because for this amount times I have right now, it's hard for me to keep up with a blog post every week. However, I still want to write a blog post every week that doesn't take me that many times. The blog posts will be short in words and photos,  but the contents are still from my heart. In other words, I don't want to throw out crap short posts just to keep up with my resolution and that someday in the future I will regret of posting them when reading the posts again.

The first post for this series is few basic minimalist clothing pieces in my closet. I guess there will monochrome edition 2,3,4... following this due to the black and white clothes I have :)).  I think this is already enough words, let's me to take you walk through my corner ;)

These scarves above are my must- have items in winter, Spring and Fall. I can't live without them in these seasons, and if you like scarves like me, and the color of these scarves are so easy to mix n match with any outfit. If you love scarf like I do, I believe they should be in your closet too :D (  these scarves are from Forever 21, affordable and decent quality)
Time for me to introduce you one of my favorite brand ever: Uniqlo. I first knew this brand when I traveled to Japan. It isn't as affordable as Forever21 or as expensive as a high-end brand. It's more like mid- end fashion brand like Zara, selling mostly basic clothes but seriously freaking high quality. The prove is my Boyfriend: he doesn't like shopping, he has no idea what H&M, Zara or forever21 are, nor other brands besides sporty brands like  Nike, Adidas. He just wears whatever  his parents and I throw to him. However, the clothes have to be super comfortable and he's IN LOVE with Uniqlo, he even swore that this is the only brand he could shop to the end of his life Lol. I couldn't be happier when Uniqlo opened their first store in WA because their shipping prices are way too expensive and I rather just visit their stores if I  travel to California or any cities that have Uniqlo than buying from them online. Actually, their basic stuff are not that expensive, they usually have promotions for the basic clothing pieces like buy 2 for a decent price or you can just like me, wait until they have sale and boom, I got the gray turtleneck for 14$ with the best material ever, it's like smooth feeling when you touch the sweater and gives you a nice comfy when wearing them. The white one and legging below are heat tech materials, I like them a lot because I know they will definitely keep me warm without wearing a bunch of layers ( also these heat tech materials somehow gives me really nice figure Lol)

you know it's worth every penny when shopping in Uniqlo.
For those outfits below, I hope someday they will have their own outfit of the day post because there is no one to take photos for me now. All my friends are busy now, and whenever we have a chance to meet, I rather having my times with them then asking for taking photos ( okay, I lie, because I'm lazy to carry my big camera around :))) ).  Anyway, I intended to put these selfies into a category like " selfie mirrors", but with the amount series I created and can't even keep them up, it's better to put them here :)).
sweater and culottes: Forever21 ( you already saw this sweater if you follow my blog, if you're not, this sweater is from contemporary line and the trouser I got for 6 bucks on sale and freaking amazing beautiful, so hurry up check forever21 if they still have it on sale)
Shoes: Zara

Shirt: Monki ( from japan trip, I wish they have Monki in The States :( )
skirt: Uniqlo
Skirt: Uniqlo, coat: Zara, shoes: I can't even remember, so long time ago.

coat and skirt: forever21
Shoes: Asos

I posted these last 2 selfies because I really love these skirts, they easily match beautifully with other clothing pieces but then the 2 coats in the selfies look nice too, but I also want to save them for coat edition... I guess, If you see these photos in a future post, don't blame me ( struggle life). :))

Adventure to snowland

As I promised that I would try to post 1 blog post a week in my New Year post, I failed to complete the mission last week Lol, which also makes me realize how I should salute bloggers who have full-time jobs and still maintain their blogs well at the same times. I mean seriously, how can you guys do that? or maybe I suck in time management. Once I have some spare times, I for sure would get distracted by youtube. hmm, Now think about it, the most important resolution of this year should have been time management...
Anyway, Today's post is about my fantastic trip to snowland - Snoqualmie. Before this  trip, I was craving for snow all the times, getting jealous of everyone in The East coast of having huge snow piles over there while in Seattle, snow has been disappearing for... Idk maybe 2 or 3 years? To be fair, It indeed snowed in Seattle,  but only happened 1 day a year and to me, they were more like showers.  However, the best thing about living in Pacific Northwest is that if you want to see snow, no problem. If you want to enjoy a warmer weather, no problem. If you want to do some activities such as hiking, no problem :)), or even if you would like to live under rainy days all the time, no problem.  Which  also means that, not so far away from Seattle, about an hour driving, there is a town named Snoqualmie that has been covered with high snow during the winter, which is the place where people crazily checked in this location on Instagram and made someone like me, who also crazily got jealous of their photos. Of course, I have to pick a day and patiently waited my bf arrived to take me there because honestly, I just want to go there to have snow photos and he's the only one that I'm comfortable to be in front of cameras completely. And that's why if you scroll down just a little more, a bunch of my photos will be showed up. If you don't like my face, I'm warning you: please stop reading from here =)).
However, we couldn't go on the chosen day because of snow storms, then the following days that we thought we could make it to Snoqualmie, It was either we were so tired or snow storm still overflow the area that had delayed our trip until very last day before my bf leaving Seattle. I was so upset that I was like: " I don't care if it is snow storm over there, I have to go".

And that's how my trip started

The day we went, it was heavy rainy and the place we chose to have breakfast, which is on the way to Snoqualmie, closed on that day. By the way, it's Chick-fil-A and I hadn't tried Chick-fil-A before and this was the only new opening one in Washington ( they have the second one now). We were like: and now what, burger king? :)) and that's how katsu burger crossed my mind. It's a staple burger place, distinctive itself from other types of burger ( Japanese style). The meat patties are deep fried, crunchy while the buns are light and fluffy. My order is even topped with runny egg ( how wonderful is that ) yummmmmmmmmmmmm!!!.

Ok, I'm probably out of topic again. Back to the trip, the rain quickly switched to snowers and then heavy snow as we approached  Snoqualmie. The landscape was spectacular, mountains and the side roads are all white. It was just like a scene stepped out from a fantasy movie. After we got off the ramp, the beautifulness of this view pressed my heart.

The only word I could think of at that moment. As usual, we stayed off far away from skiing area, went inside the village, people houses  and streets that nobody drove by, and sometimes, when we stopped in front of random houses that behind them was a snow mountain, I got a strange nostalgic feeling, like I had lived in this kind of houses before. The life that your legs are deep in snow, looking far away and asking if a snow storm is coming tonight, maybe I'd lived that life in my dream? It was also funny how I was freaking scared that our car would be sliding or how our car tires would get stuck. Neither of my scares didn't happen but still, it was both amazing and scary experience at the same time, Although my boyfriend was pretty chill all the time and seemed like so get used to it.( I wonder if all people living in East Coast have this same attitude?:)) )

This delicious crunchy burger is served with shredded cabbage, a slice of bacon, some veggies and topped with delicious housemade curry sauce. I can't complain.

Woohoo, sledding, we didn't bring any sledding board with us and because my outfit was pretty inappropriate to play or even walking on snow.

I don't want to blast about this boots. I bought it like couple years ago from Ugg, the second most expensive shoes I've spent on, which only until that day when I realized this boot was a saver of my life in this trip, helping me to avoid more facepalm on that day.

randomly, out of nowhere, this sad face pretty dog appeared, just looking at us and disappeared quickly after that.

Since this is the trip for my photos, don't be surprised why I changed to many different outfits in one trip. :))

Thêm chú thích

I overdrew my lip and only realized after those photos were already taken, so excuse my super full lips :)).

Last but not least, all the clothing pieces are from forever 21, except the shoes and the Zara white coat.

Camera fun life: Olympus OMD-M10 MARK II

( I'm not a professional photographer or expert in Cameras. This review is just my own personal experience)
If you follow my blog for awhile, you probably know I'm a camera geek. I've been into photography for a long time, though I wouldn't call myself photographer anymore. It sucks that I lose my passion into photography, and when I lose my passionate flame in something, it's hard for me to get it back, although I'm thinking going back to it just for fun and relax. But I do LOVE cameras, I have a camera fetish ( also Starbucks gift card fetish) and I like collecting different kinds of cameras. Well, it sounds fancy but I swear that I only buy one of each kind so...Is it acceptable, right? :)) My dearest camera collection currently and sweetly becomes my brother's collection, who amazingly claimed it by himself as I couldn't bring them to Seattle with me...what a good brother!
Olympus OMD-M10 mark II has a retro looking of a film camera, with the weight almost 400g, it's a light but not light enough for vlog purpose.

the outside of this camera gives me the feeling that if I accidently drop it, it is still okay

Anyway, the point is that I got myself a beautiful effortlessly camera for my collection as Christmas present for myself: Olympus Omd- 10d mark II. It's a mirrorless camera and if you don't know what a mirrorless camera is, I will sum up a little bit what it is here and why I bought it. Basically, it's more like a compact camera but with interchangeable lenses. However, unlike DSLR, it doesn't have a mirror reflex optical viewfinder and most of these mirrorless cameras have 4/3 sensor size ( which are equal to entry- level DSLR sensor), although recently, a lot of companies have stepped into full frame  mirrorless camera battles such as Fuji or Sony. Why I bought it? I love my 5D mark II, it's been with me roughly 5 years or more than that, I can't remember :)). It's my best friend but the best friend is pretty heavy to carry around. Now I sound like an amateur who try to buy a camera just to show off, but I seriously think that canon 5D isn't compatible for travelling unless you have strong hand grips ( Okay, sorry 5D, you've been with so many travels and now I betray you like that), which is a reason for me to seek a camera that reacts my expectations: Light, good for vlog and also good for taking portrait photos. I had researched a lot and many people, including my brother, who have tested fuji cameras, claimed Fuji probably has the best mirrorless cameras out there. The downside is that from what I know, Fuji mirrorless cameras aren't good cameras for filming and pretty sure you gotta have a big budget if you decide to go with fuji cameras because hell yeah, their lens prices are too d*mn high.  But There are still many options such as Sony alpha line, which I hope in the future I would have a chance to test it or Canon EOS M line, though I decided to go with Olympus at the end because of its vintage look LMAO. Honestly, I couldn't stop thinking how this camera could be this beautiful when I first hold it. The image quality is pretty good in terms of sharpness. Since I'm using a cheap lens for my 5D, the sharpness of Olympus images wins over 5Ds. Oh, I forgot to mention, I bought it with the 25 mm 1.8 Olympus prime lens, which is equivalent to 50 mm lens on a full-frame camera. I had tested it along with my 5D for about 2 weeks.  Overall, I love it, but not worth the price since I own 5D, I have a pretty high expectation for this camera, which is the reason why I returned it. The color is kinda yellow for some reasons, no matter how I switch to different modes, adjust color levels, they still look yellow-ish and since It doesn't give you a deep shallow/depth of field like how my 5D is since it's micro 4/3 sensor, unless if I would have purchased a 45mm 1.8, maybe it would be different in deep shallow. The pros of  OMD- M10 mark II is its sharpness and its advantage in taking details photos, travel friendly, night photos, everyday life and flatlay, which is perfect for anyone who just want a light, entry level DSLR quality camera that can serve any photos purposes and has a limited budget, go for this camera, you won't regret ( also, it has different color modes for you to choose like soft focus, Lomo, HDR...) but if you really take seriously with photography like taking portraits or wedding, fashion...go with big full-frame heavy cameras out there, because that's why these cameras are made.
My advice after trying Olympus

  • If you have extra budget, wanna get a nice vintage looking  camera, belong to the Olympus line, get the OMD-M5 mark II, it has 180 flip-up screen compared to the OMD- M10 mark ii, which only has the tilt screen. Otherwise, stay with 10D, it won't make any different except the weather sealing on 5d.
  • If you want more fancy, slightly higher quality and probably better color-processing, go with Fuji cameras  ( prepare your budget for lens upgrade)
  • I heard a good thing about sony & line, I can't wait to test it and let you know about it later. Or if you own one, I'd love to read your reviews.
  • If you have a smaller limited budget, still wanna get a good nice vintage looking camera with interchangeable lens from Olympus, get the Olympus pen EPL7 ( doesn't have view finder)
  • More importantly, no matter what camera you use ( although it would make significantly different LOL), as long as you love taking photos, then your photos would turn out beautiful no matter what ( like using iphone:)), or  with the help from photo editors :)))))))))))))))))))))

I'm still looking my perfect mirrorless camera and I know there will be a lot of mirrorless cameras come out this march so my plan for this "camera fun life" posts would be:
  • Testing the fuji camera lines and sony & by myself
  • Try Canon g7x, which isn't a mirrorless camera but I heard good thing about it for vlogs
  • Review my Gopro hero 3+, which I have used for my California trip
  • Try new coming mirrorless cameras in this march

all those photos below were taken under automatic iso at F 1.8.

you can also see some of them from my previous post ( New year post) and you will see tons of them in upcoming posts.

Here is a comparison between Olympus OMD-M10 mark II with 28 mm 1.9 lens and Canon 5D mark II with 50mm 1.8 lens, both shot at F 1.8. However, I set automatic Iso on Olympus while inhouse and  max iso 6400 for 5D. For outside, the iso on 5D was about 1600 for the gloomy day ( okay, I don't remember but Lightroom tells me that :))), also, all photos are unedited to give you the honest view of image quality.

Iso 200, Olympus
I'll let you guys decided which one you like better.

Since this is my very first post of reviewing a camera, I might forget to include a lot of things and the post probably lacks a lot of details of the comparison but hopefully, you would get some views of Olympus OMD-M10 Mark II
